Our Purpose

Check in/out procedures
New - Parents/Guardians – upon arrival to the nursery, a nursery attendant will greet you and help you register your child. We utilize your cell phone number to communicate with you. You will be prompted to add details that we need to be aware of such as: allergies, level of potty training, where you will be at during their stay in the nursery and any other special restrictions and add any other guardians such as grandparents who may be checking in/picking up. If needed, we will page you via your cell phone so set your phone to vibrate and keep it handy to watch for alerts from the nursery during the service. If we text you, please come to your child's room
(NOTE: we will not see replies as we are busy tending to children, so please come promptly to the nursery once we reach out to you)
Return Visits - Parents/Guardians – upon arrival to the nursery, a nursery attendant will greet you and ask you to sign in/out your children at the nursery check in station. If a concern with your child requires your attention, a nursery attendant will send a PAGE to your cell phone stating: “Roots Kids is paging you. Please come to your child's room (NOTE: This is a PAGER-we do not see replies)
What can Parents/Guardians expect
Routine: A typical routine for children during their nursery visit will consist of a story being read to them from our library of Christian children’s books, hearing Christian music or watching Christian kids videos and of course they spend lots of time playing with toys and having fun with all their friends.
Bring Your Diaper Bag fully stocked: Please bring the following items for your child: A small snack/drink, Diaper in their size, change of clothes (remember warm/cold outfits) and any other comfort item your child may need. If you do forget, we have some extra diapers on hand but we cannot guarantee all the shapes and sizes needed will be in stock.
Restroom Use: A restroom is located within the nursery. If your child is in the process of potty training, we ask that they come in pull ups until fully potty trained. During potty training, be sure to let the attendants know any signals or words they may use to let us know they need to use the restroom.
Diaper Changes: A diaper changing room is within the nursery. Nursery Attendants will use the diapers/wipes you provide and upon completion of the diaper being changed, they will wash their hands and disinfect the changing area. If you forget to bring diapers/wipes we will use our extras on hand.
Separation: If your child is sad or anxious when separating from you, know that we understand what it’s like to be in your shoes and we understand what they are feeling too. Some children are more cautious of others and this new experience may take time to adapt to. You can take whatever time you need with them to assist in their transition. Once you determine it’s time for you to leave them at the nursery, a good routine is to tell them you love them and you will be back soon. The Nursery Attendants will gently reassure your child that you will be back for them and get them interested in playing with the others. As a general rule of thumb if there is no change after 15 minutes, you will be notified via text on your cell phone with the code “nursery” If you receive this text, please come back to the nursery so you can determine if your child will be fine to stay or you want to leave with them and try again next week. Through the repetition of coming to the nursery, your child will grow to understand that this is a fun and safe place where they play with friends and their loved ones always come back for them. With time, their anxiety typically melts away, they look forward to coming back and you’ll be able to enjoy your time with God in the church service!
Illness: If your child is ill/contagious, please keep them in your care until they are feeling better and free of fever/symptoms for at least 24 hrs. For children who show signs of illness in the nursery such as a fever, excessive coughing or continuous runny nose, you will be contacted with the code “nursery” If you receive this text, please come to the nursery to pick up your child.
Photo Release: We like to share the fun we have with our children by taking photos from time to time. We know the safety of your children is of the utmost importance so you determine if this is something you will or will not allow. Upon your first visit to the nursery, if at anytime you want to change your previous preference for photographing your child please inform us right away so we can inform our staff and update your information.
About our Staff Nursery Attendants
The nursery is staffed by qualified adults who have experience working with children, completed a screening process, passed a background check and demonstrate the necessary love, patience and joy for working with children. Additional volunteers including qualified youth may serve as extra helpers in addition to our adult Nursery Attendant.
Nursery Attendants will remain in the nursery at all times with your child and will not take your child out of the nursery. Nursery Attendants follow sanitation procedures during diaper changing and throughout their shift as they disinfect toys and surfaces.
